The Role

We are currently recruiting for experienced Journeyman and Apprentice Pipefitters to join our team at Kearl Oil Sands, a major oil sands site in Northern Alberta. The successful candidates will work in a safety-first environment on a 14/14 rotation. Camp accommodations and meals provided. Charter flights provided from designated hubs in Edmonton and Calgary with flight allowances based on the province located. 

This project is 6 months in duration and will be starting beginning of March 

Compensation/Benefits

  • CLAC hourly wages
  • Payday is every Friday
  • Company contributed RRSP & Pension contributions
  • Benefits after 300 hours
  • Paid training
  • 10% vacation and stat holiday pay on regular earnings
  • OT at 1.5 after 8 hours per day
 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Journeyman

  • Read,  interpret and work from blueprints, isometric drawings and specifications
  • Expertly measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, assemble and install metal, plastic and fiberglass valves, pipes, fittings
  • Install valves, pumps, fittings, supports and control systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair piping systems as required
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with OCL standards, industry codes and applicable regulations
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Apprentice Pipefitters
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area
  • Comply with all company, client and site-specific safety policies and procedures


Apprentices

  • Assist journeyperson pipefitters with the installation, assembly and maintenance of piping systems
  • Learn and read and interpret blueprints and drawings under supervision
  • Measure, cut and prepare pipe and materials as directed
  • Assist with installing supports, valves, fittings and piping components
  • Use hand and power tools safely and correctly and as directed by a supervisor
  • Maintain tools, equipment and a clean work area at all times
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and job site requirements
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, take direction and develop pipefitting skills 
  • Complete tasks in accordance with OCL and industry standards

Skills/Qualifications/Education

Journeyman

  • Journeyperson Pipefitter Certification
  • Previous experience in an industrial construction environment
  • Valid safety tickets (OSSA, CSTS-2020, WHMIS 2015, H2S Alive, First Aid, Fall Protection, AWP, Confined Space)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work with cranes and rigging-pick out the appropriate size weight ratings 
  • Physically capable of performing job duties including but not limited to: bending, lifting and working in various weather conditions
  • Ensure a safe team environment
  • Adhere to all company and worksite safety and quality processes and procedures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Must complete a criminal background check 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada 

Apprentices

  • Registered Pipefitter Apprentice 
  • Previous industrial or construction experience is considered an asset
  • Valid safety tickets (OSSA, CSTS-2020, WHMIS 2015, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, AWP, Confined Space )
  • Ability to perform physical job duties in an industrial environment
  • Basic understanding of piping systems and construction practices
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team 
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Commitment to safe work practices
  • Must be able to to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test 
  • Must complete a criminal background check
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
