The Role

We are seeking an experienced and safety-driven Electrical Superintendent to provide on-site leadership and technical direction for all electrical construction activities. This is a site-based position at Kearl Oil Sands, working on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of the electrical scope, ensuring that work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your role is critical to the project's success, requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and exceptional planning skills.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • On-Site Leadership: Directly supervise and mentor a team of Electrical General Foremen, Foremen, and craft personnel, ensuring high productivity and positive morale.
  • Safety & Compliance: Champion a world-class safety culture. Lead daily toolbox talks, conduct safety inspections, and ensure all work is executed in strict accordance with project HSE policies, the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
  • Planning & Scheduling: Develop and execute 3-week lookahead plans and work packages. Coordinate with project controls to ensure alignment with the overall project schedule and proactively address potential delays.
  • Execution & Quality Control: Oversee the installation, termination, and testing of all electrical systems, including high, medium, and low voltage systems, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, cable tray, conduit, and grounding.
  • Coordination: Liaise with other discipline superintendents (Mechanical, Civil, Instrumentation) to ensure seamless work-front integration and avoid conflicts.
  • Technical Guidance: Serve as the primary technical resource for the electrical craft. Interpret complex engineering drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs) and specifications to resolve field-level issues.
  • Reporting & Administration: Manage the submission of daily progress reports, craft timesheets, and field-level documentation. Initiate and track Requests for Information (RFIs) as required.
  • Materials Management: Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely delivery of electrical materials, tools, and equipment to the work-front.

Education/Skills/Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician Certificate with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement is required.
  • Master Electrician certification is a strong asset.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in heavy industrial electrical construction, with at least 5 years in a Superintendent or General Foreman role on large-scale oil and gas projects in Canada.
  • Proven experience leading large crews on projects such as SAGD facilities, upgraders, refineries, or major gas plants.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and its practical application in hazardous locations.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot from complex engineering drawings and documents.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in construction planning and scheduling
  • Must have the following safety tickets: CSTS-2020 (Construction Safety Training System), WHMIS 2015, Standard First Aid with CPR/AED (Level C), H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform (EWP) / Aerial Work Platform (AWP)
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test 
  • Must complete a criminal background check prior to  starting 
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and physically navigate a large, active construction site.
